Epilepsy Awareness

Epilepsy is a neurological condition which presents in as many as 50 different types. It is diagnosed when someone has recurrent seizures (also known to many people as fits, grand mal, petit mal, absences). It is caused by excess electrical activity in the brain. Around 500,000 people have epilepsy in the UK. It is the most serious neurological condition is a major long-term disability with similar numbers of people affected as insulin dependent diabetes.
This half day course for nurses, carers and staff will enable delivery of patient focused care. The information about epilepsy with its link to learning disability, behaviour and mortality will enable appreciation of the complexity of this condition.
The Key learning objectives:
- Epilepsy Awareness and Practice Management for Seizures
- Rectal diazepam (Stesolid) and Buccal Midazolam (Epistatus) administration in accordance with individual protocols and risk assessment which enables a greater understanding of the health and safety issues associated with this method of drug administration
What Are The Requirements?
There are no formal requirements however participants need to be working in the Health & Social Care sector.

This is a half day training course which can be provided at your setting at a suitable date agreed.
