In the current gloomy financial situation people are feeling ever more stressed, having to make ends meet and living with the constant anxiety of job insecurity.

Everyone has their own strategies to cope with the stress and within this blog I will explain a few things I find helpful to give each day a little lift.

I find it helpful to take some time out each day just to be aware of how I’m feeling and what’s going on. I like to plan some fun into each day; whether that be taking time to talk to a colleague, go for a walk at lunch time or to meet up with friends outside of work – something which has been crowded out of my life by increasing business.

I now spend more time enjoying the ‘here and now’, just living in the moment. I’m finding myself listening more to people in conversations, which I find helps to enrich both my working and social relationships. When driving I am making a conscious effort to do so more slowly, to take in the turning of the leaves to their autumn colours – enjoying my surroundings as I travel from place to place.

My current top tips to give each day a lift:

  • Live in the here and now – don’t worry about what’s been and gone.
  • Listen more closely to the people around you, enjoy and engage in the conversations you’re having.
  • Have a good clear out at home and recycle what you no longer need.
  • Plan your evenings to spend more time with the people that really matter.

By doing these things, I am feeling a lot more calm and in a much better position to deal with the ups and downs presented in increasingly gloomy times.
